A Healing Vision
Dr. Richard Hart, the President of Loma Linda University Health in California, shared an interesting story about Sir Run Run Shaw's childhood:
Growing up in Shanghai, Sir Run Run Shaw’s mother fell ill and sought care from an American doctor, Harry Miller, who had arrived to help the Adventist Church. Revered for his dedication to the country, Miller became known as the “China Doctor”. He subsequently went on to become a pioneer of Loma Linda University. Sir Run Run Shaw, a man of profound vision and deep gratitude, never forgot the kindness from Dr. Miller.
This experience introduced the young Run Run to advanced Western medical practices and also instilled in him a passion to support healthcare.
As the 1980’s approached and he envisioned building a modern hospital in Zhejiang Province, he drew inspiration from his early connection with Dr. Miller. His deep sense of appreciation culminated in a transformative collaboration with the Adventist Church and Loma Linda University, and thus established the “Shaw Hospital Model” in 1994.
