About Us

Our Mission

Carrying on the legacy of our late founder the legendary film mogul Sir Run Run Shaw, and his philanthropic wishes to have particular regard to the welfare of persons of the Chinese ethnicity, we are dedicated to the betterment of society and empowerment of individuals under the three pillars of “Education”, “Relief of Hardship” and “Benefits for Hong Kong Community”.

Education

Education is the cornerstone of our late founder’s charity. He had donated to over six thousand primary, secondary and university education projects throughout mainland China and Hong Kong. Following his footsteps, we also focus on advancing and disseminating human knowledge in disciplines such as science, arts and culture and empowering individuals in a rapidly changing world.

The Shaw Prize, established in 2002 and being hosted annually in Hong Kong, is a prestigious prize awarded to honour outstanding achievements in scientific research and advancement in three disciplines, namely Astronomy, Life Science and Medicine, and Mathematical Sciences. The fourth Shaw Prize is on the horizon.

We have supported major research projects in medicine and life science in distinguished institutions such as Peking University, The University of Hong Kong, and initiatives focused on thalassemia prevention in Hainan Province, China. We believe that scientific research drives improvement in knowledge and the condition of humankind.

As a celebrated film producer, our late founder had instilled in us the importance of arts and culture in enriching society and individuals. As one of the largest and most advanced film facilities in Asia, the Shaw Studios has been the home to over one thousand films, many of which are now considered classics of Chinese cinema. Acknowledging the role that arts and culture plays in education, we continue to nurture the next generation of content creator for film and media in its many evolving forms.

Relief of Hardship

We have made substantial donations to hospitals, clinics and care homes throughout mainland China and Hong Kong, including the Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital in Zhejiang and the Red Cross Headquarters in Hong Kong.

We have consistently stood at the forefront of emergency relief for natural disasters, for example, the 2008 Sichuan earthquake and the COVID pandemic in Hong Kong. We continue to assist underserved, the poor and the needy.

Benefits for Hong Kong Community

We strive to improve the welfare and wellbeing of the Hong Kong community by providing resources, services, opportunities and support that can benefit and empower individuals and communities.
